I loves me some music

I love music.  Truly. 

I don’t know much about it, technically speaking - that is, I often can’t quite describe what it is I love about a particular song, band or album – I just sort of know it in my bones; in that stir your soul, stomp your feet, close your eyes, roll down the windows and sing your head off kind of way.  Not to plagiarize, but a certain famous frontman coined it this way, “I can’t sing but I got soul.” 

My personal musical proficiency extends little further than a rudimentary, rusty ability to read music due to the year I played Viola (the boy’s violin) in 7th grade in the Orchestra at Arnold Middle School … though they’ve changed their name since I was a young buck there.  Additionally, for several years as a youngster I tickled the ivories under the watchful tutelage of Anne Jones in my native Columbus, GA.   *Ms. Jones, if you ever read this … I wish I hadn’t quit. :( *

I say all of the above to say that this year, this two thousand and seventh year of our Lord, has been a banner one for this particular music fan.  So I thought I’d take the next few days to walk you through, what I find, to be some of my favorite releases of the year.  Who knows, maybe I’ll shed some light on some artists you’d either sworn off or never heard of before.  I mean heck, in a year without a U2 album we have to find something to listen to … I daresay the albums we’ll look at are well worth a spin in your CD player or an import to your iPod.
