Music Lovin’ 6: Once
*Part 6 of a multi-part look at some of my favorite albums of the year*

Once, Original Soundtrack
In addition to being one of the best movies of the year, this little engine that could also produced one of the finest soundtracks as well. My wife has described this movie as the ultimate guy’s chick-flick. Who knows, maybe she’s right. But doggonit, it’s just so passionate!
The movie is really about little more than the two lead characters (named Guy and Girl in the credits as the film never actually names them) making sweet music together and falling in love. The catch is they can’t be together for, well, I’ll let you find it and watch it for yourself … which you should go do asap.
The music was written by Guy actor Glen Hansard, also the lead singer for the band The Frames. Since the material is his own, Hansard lends the vocal performances a sincerity and passion only he could.
Favorite lyric:
“Ten years ago I fell in love with an Irish girl,
she took my heart,
But she went and screwed some guy that she knew,
and now I’m in Dublin with a broken heart”
-from Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy
Songs worth iTunesing:
Falling Slowly
When Your Mind’s Made Up
Say It To Me Now
*it should be noted that iTunes has the whole album for 7.99
