As If I Needed Further Proof I’m A Dork

I stole this idea from my friend and fellow Dork Jeremy Hunt.

The gist is this: Rank the top musical artists in your collection by the amount of time each artists ouvre covers.  For instance, on Jeremy’s list, his top band was UNKLE (who I’ve never heard of) coming in at 22.4 hours worth of music with 177 tracks.

I thought I’d do the same and see what I found.  The results are … not that surprising.  At least the number one.  What is surprising, or shameful perhaps, is the staggering amount of time it would take to listen to all the music I have by my number 1.

Intrigued yet?

The clear and not very surprising winner in my rundown is the boys from Ireland, U2.  I still have a few errant tracks here and there that haven’t made their way to my computer or iPod, but the following numbers are staggering enough.

    U2: 403 songs = 1.2 days
    Waterdeep: 187 songs = 14.3 hours
    Caedmons Call:119 songs = 8.4 hours
Jars of Clay: 115 songs = 8.3 hours
    Five Iron Frenzy:124 songs = 6.9 hours
Over the Rhine: 95 songs = 6.8 hours
    Hanson:68 songs = 4.9 hours

Some interesting observations about my list are:

1. Jars and Caedmons began their musical careers at roughly the same time and have roughly the exact same number of songs at the exact same length of time…coincidence?

2.  Five Iron Frenzy has been defunct for 5 years.  Moment of silence, please.

3.  I have 5 hours of Hanson music.

4.  I have over 400 tracks worth of U2.  That either makes me incredibly cool or, more likely, incredibly lame.

Who would be at the top of your list time-wise?

  1. Wow. Your post reminded me that I completely forgot FIF in my tally. I am a retard. Off to make a correction!

  2. As I posted in the House of Hunt, my Ipod is bursting with:
    Marillion: 1218 Tracks, 6.8 days

No greatest hits, no solo albums. Pure Marillion, regular albums and live recordings.

    Ah, Bliss.

  3. 1200 tracks?! almost 7 days? you truly are a superfan.

  4. 1. Ben Folds (Five and solo): 127 tracks, 8 hours
    2. Caedmon’s Call: 112 tracks, 7.1 hours
    3. Jars of Clay: 101 tracks, 7.3 hours
    4. David Crowder*Band: 94 tracks 6.7 hours
